I am a scientist- Dr Janine Paynter. I have studied caddis flies, powdery mildew on grapevines, nematodes associated with insects, phytoplasmas in sugar cane, two invasive leguminous weeds – Montpellier broom and Mimosa pigra (Giant sensitive plant), youth smoking, point of sale tobacco displays, illicit tobacco and cessation of tobacco use.

So far my blogs have been about insects (dung beetles) social media, South African wildlife and photos of things that I think are beautiful.

I am currently working with Conectus and the immunisation centre advisory centre (IMAC) team and the projects I’ve been involved in are the safety of the pertussis vaccine in pregnancy, effectiveness of the pneumococcal vaccines in New Zealand and my upcoming project will be seeing if the meningococcal B vaccine given in New Zealand 2004-2008 gives some protection against gonorrhoea.
